If the transmission switches to fail -safe
mode, you should take the vehicle to an au-
thor ized Audi dealersh ip as soon as possible
to have the condition corrected.
Clutch is overheating
Applies to vehicles: with S tro nic
Clutch is overheating! Please stop vehi-
cle!
If the symbols are illuminated, the clutch is
overheating and could be damaged if you con-
tinue to drive . Stop the vehicle and allow t he
transmission to cool with the selector lever in
the P pos ition wh ile the eng ine runs at idle .
If
the wa rning does not turn off, do not cont inue
driving. See you r authorized Audi dea ler or
qua lified rep a ir fac ility for assis t ance. Ot her-
wise se rious transmission dam age could re-
sult . Once the indicator light has turned off,
drive to your authorized Audi dealer or quali-
fied repair fac ility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
Selector lever emergency release
Applies to vehicles: with S tron ic
If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selec-
tor lever can be released in an emergency.

The emergency release mechanism is located
in the right front area under the se lector lever
shift gate . Using the emergency release can
be complicated. We recommend contacting
your authorized Audi dea ler for assistance, if
necessary.
Removing the selector lever boot
.,. Activate the parking brake .
.,. Carefully pry the se lector lever boot out of
the trim @ us ing a small screwdriver.
.,. Pull both sides of the selector lever boot up-
ward in the direction of the ar row @ .
.,. Fold the se lector lever boot upward .
Selecto r lever emergency release
.,. Press the release lever down and hold it in
place

.,. Press the release button in the selecto r lever
© and move the leve r into the N position .
.,. Clip the se lector lever boot back into the
shift gate afte r us ing t he emergency re-
lease .
If the vehicle must be pushed or towed due to
a power fa ilure (for examp le, the batte ry is
discharged), t he sele ctor lever must first be
moved to t he N posi ti on us ing the emergency
release mechanism.
_&. WARNING
Only move the selector leve r out of the P
position when the park ing brake is act ivat-
ed. Othe rwise, the veh icle could start to
move unintentionally when t he se lector
leve r is moved out of the P position.
