Theoperatoroftheboatisresponsibleforthesafetyofthepassengers,allskiers/riders,as
wellashis/herownsafety.Ensurethatyouandyourpassengersadheretothese
safetyrecommendations:
Anytimeyoutakeyourboatout,makesurethatthereisatleastoneother
passengeraboardwhoisfamiliarwiththeoperationofyourboat.
Ensurethatallpassengersareproperlyandsecurelyseatedinappropriate
seatinglocationstoavoidfallingorfallingoverboard.
Whiletheengineisrunning,andwhiletheboatmaneuvering,alloccupants
shouldbeproperlyseated.DO NOTstandwhiletheboatismoving.
DO NOTsitontheenginebox,seatbacks,transomseating,sunpad,boarding
platformorgunnelswhiletheboatisunderway.Youcouldfalloverboardand
behitbythepropeller,oranotherboat.
DO NOTallowobjects,armsorlegs,oranyotherbodypartstohangoverthe
boworgunnels.Staywithintheboat.
Passengersshouldnotsitinlocationsthatobstructtheoperator’svisibility.
Personsandgearshouldbestowedinawaythatdistributesweightappropriatelyandina
mannerthattrimstheboatproperly(pitchangle).Excessiveweightateithertheboworthe
sternrelativetooneanothercancausetrimproblemsleadingtoreduceddrivervisibility,
erraticsteering,lossofcontrol,orbowsubmergenceandooding/swamping.
Passengersshouldbewellawareofemergencyequipmentandinstructedinitsuse.
Passengersshouldassistwithlookoutdutiesandnotifytheoperatorofanyapproaching
watercraftorpotentiallyunsafeconditionstoprovideassistancewithcollisionavoidance.
CarbonMonoxide(CO)isadeadly,colorlessandodorlessgasproducedby
allenginesandfuel-burningappliances.Evenwiththebestboatdesignand
construction,plustheutmostcareininspection,operationandmaintenance,
hazardouslevelsofcarbonmonoxidemaybepresentinorneartheboatunder
certainconditions.Theboatowner,operator,aswellasallboatoccupants,must
understandthedangersofcarbonmonoxideandmustcomplywithallsafety
recommendations/requirements.Forboatswithcabins,alwaysventilatetheboat
interiorandavoidboatingsituationswhichcauseincreasedexposure.
Carbon monoxide (CO) can cause brain damage or death.
Engine and generator exhaust contains odorless and
colorless carbon monoxide gas. Carbon monoxide will be around the
back of the boat when engines or generators are running. Move to fresh air, if you feel nausea, headache,
dizziness, or drowsiness.
• Donotallowpeopletobeonorneartheswimplatformorinthewaterneartheswim
platformwhiletheengineisrunning.Carbonmonoxidewillexistaroundthebackoftheboat
whenenginesarerunning.
• Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspaceorwhiletheboatistetheredtoanothervessel.
• Donotgoundertheboatcoverwhiletheengineisrunningorshortlyaftertheenginehas
beenrunning.Carbonmonoxidemaybetrappedunderthecover.Itisimportanttoremove
thecoverand/orventilatetheareabeforegoingundertheboatcover.
• Donot“platform/teak”surforplatformdrag.Carbonmonoxidewillexistinhigh
concentrationsinthevicinityoftheswimplatformnearthewaterwhiletheengineis
running.TheUSCGhasdeemedplatformdraggingasadangerousandhazardousactivity
whichshouldbeprohibited,asitcanresultininjuryordeath.
• Intheeventthatsomeoneexhibitsthesymptomsofcarbonmonoxideexposure(nausea,
headache,dizziness,ordrowsiness),havethembreathefreshairand,ifnecessary,
immediatelyseekmedicalattention.
