6.4. Overvoltage protection
LiFePO4 battery cells must not be charged abo-
ve 365V/cell and 146V/battery, otherwise the
cells will be destroyed by overvoltage
Therefore, only suitable chargers with a char-
ging voltage of 146V may be used to charge
LiFePO4 batteries
The BMS protects the cell from overcharging,
but must absorb and burn off the current its-
elf This is possible for a short time, but is not
a permanent condition A permanently high
charging voltage above 146V can damage the
BMS!
A fully discharged battery should
be charged as quickly as possible!
Small consumers such as alarm systems,
relays, standby systems etc. also consu-
me capacity and discharge your bat-
tery; to extend the service life, make
sure that the battery is disconnected
from the system by disconnecting the
positive terminal.
6.5. Active cell balancing
Balancing ensures that each individual cell is charged to the maximum closing voltage of 36V/
cell
This is important when the battery is at maximum capacity, because when the cells are completely
empty, they can drift slightly and become uneven This condition cannot be equalised by normal
charging This is remedied by the built-in active balancer, which equalises the cells at all times The
active balancer ensures maximum efficiency regardless of the battery‘s state of charge
6.6. Charging control
The BMS monitors and controls all parameters for reliable and safe charging at all times In the
event of problems, charging is interlocked by switching off the battery outputs to protect the
battery
6.7. Temperature protection of the cells
All LiFePO4 cells in the battery are individually monitored by a temperature sensor at all times;
if the battery switches off because the cells have reached over 70°C, they must first cool down
again until the BMS releases the output again For this purpose, no current may be drawn or
charged for 30 minutes!
6.8. Temperature protection of the BMS
The BMS itself is also permanently monitored by a temperature sensor If the BMS reaches a
temperature of 95°C, the battery outputs are switched off; the outputs can only be switched on
again once they have cooled down For this purpose, no current may be drawn or charged for
30 minutes!
