3. Regular Service
For the regularity of service of your BFO disk brake the frequency of
usage as well as the usage conditions are crucial. Perform these steps more
often, if you use your bicycle under extreme conditions (rain, dirt, high
mileage etc.).
⚠⚠
Corrosion and material damages through penetrating water.
– Never use high-pressure cleaner or steam jet to clean your disk brake –
seals of the components cannot withstand the pressure.
3.1 Wear Condition of Pads and Rotors
⚠⚠
Danger of accident due to failing brakes.
– Check wear condition of pads/rotors regularly.
– Never use pads/rotors, if wear limit is reached. Worn out pads/rotors
should be changed immediately.
⚠⚠
Damage of rotors through contact with support plate of pads.
– Check wear condition of pads/rotors regularly.
) Remove wheel.
) Measure pads on both brakes with suitable caliper gauge.
wear limit = pads (including support plate) t < 2,5 mm (pic. 14).
Pads can get worn out unevenly – in case of doubt or measure limit when
disassembled at different positions (– see changing pads, page 28). Reason
for uneven wear of brake pads is either an incorrect adjustment of the brake
caliper or an improper milling of the brake mount of the frame/fork.
) Measure disc on the braking surface an at several different positions (1)
with suitable caliper.
The smallest measurement indicates the state of wear condition.
Wear limit = rotors t < 1,7 mm (pic. 15).
Always put in new pads when tting a new rotor.
