900IW Series Integrated Welders
Actuator: The unit which houses
the converter/booster/horn
assembly in a rigid mounting,
allowing the assembly to move
up and down, either
mechanically or pneumatically,
applying pressure to the part at a
user-adjustable pressure and
velocity.
Baud Rate: A communications
measure describing the speed at
which signals are transmitted
serially — the number of signal
events per second. If each event
is equal to one BIT, then baud is
also a measure of data flow and
refers to the number of BITS
transmitted per second, including
"start" and "stop" BITS.
BBRAM (Also BBR): Nonvolatile
random access memory
(battery-backup random access
memory). With very long-lasting
batteries built in, this memory
area preserves weld parameters
and menu settings when the
power is turned off.
Bit: An abbreviation for binary
digit — the smallest unit of
information in a binary system.
Booster: A one-half-
wavelength-long resonant metal
section mounted between the
converter and horn, sometimes
having a change in
cross-sectional area between the
input and output surfaces. The
booster mechanically alters the
amplitude of vibrations received
from the driving surface of the
converter, and imparts the new
amplitude to the horn.
BOS: Branson Operating System,
the hardware resident program in
the Power Supply's programmer.
Buffer: An intermediate area or
device which holds data
temporarily while being transferred
between elements of a computer
system.
Clamping Force: The pounds or
kilograms exerted by the horn
onto the workpiece.
Clock: An electronic circuit that
generates timing pulses to
synchronize the operation of
various other circuits in a device or
devices.
Communications: Transmission of
information between points of
origin and reception without
alteration of the sequence or
structure of the information
content.
Continuous Sonics Mode: In this
mode, the system is ready to
perform a continuous weld. The
weld is started by pressing the left
palm button. The LEDs in the
ENERGY and TIME keys flash
alternately and the blue VF display
shows the message READY
CONTINUOUS SONICS. No
parameters may be set from this
