Magnetic Stray Field
When working within the 0.5 mT (5 Gauss) stray field of the magnet, all magnetic parts and
tools must be avoided or handled with great care.
CAUTION: Deposit mechanical watches and cards with a magnetic strip (e.g. credit cards)
outside the 0.5 mT (5 Gauss) range of the magnet.
General Safety Issues
NMR laboratories should not be accessible to the public. Make sure access is restricted to
authorized and qualified persons only.
Strong magnetic fields involve various hazards. The danger zone should be labelled as
precise as possible by the use of barriers, floor-taping or visual warning devices. Consult
your safety manual for specific information concerning the danger zone (0.5 mT/5 Gauss
line).
Strictly enforce the smoking ban during refill procedures.
7.1.1 First Aid
If cold helium or nitrogen gas comes in contact with eyes or skin, immediately flood the
affected area with cold or tepid water.
