2.6. MAINTENANCE
The flue must be kept clean at all times because deposits of soot or unburnt oil reduce the section and
impede draught, compromising proper operation of the stove; there is also a danger that large
accumulations can catch fire. It is compulsory that a skilled chimney sweep clean and check the flue and
chimney at least once a year, or as recommended by the flue manufacturer. The chimney sweep must
also issue a written declaration that the system is safe.
A stove not cleaned may be unsafe.
2.7. CHIMNEY
The chimney is important for proper operation of the heater; we recommend a windproof one (A) see
Picture 5.
Picture 5
The area of the fumes outlet holes must be two
times bigger than the area of the flue and
shaped so that, in case of windy conditions, it
assures smokes discharging. It must prevent
rain, snow and animals entrance. The height
at which smoke is discharged into the
atmosphere must be outside the reflux zone.
(Reflux zone is generated by roof shape or
nearby obstacles: see Picture 4, page 66).
