It is recommended use to following range for
BACnet MSTP MAC address numbering:
Value Usage Devices
0 Bus Master
(Building
Controller)
MSTP adaptor
Invalid for Carrier
WTC-B devices
1 Temporary
commissioning
connection
Portable adaptor for a
temporary mainte-
nance connection
2 Reserved Other
3-127 MSTP Master All Carrier devices
are master devices
should be in this
MAC address range
128-254 MSTP Slave Non Carrier devices
and network sensors
255 Broadcast Do not apply
The controller must be power cycled after the
MAC address DIP switch has been changed.

(position 0)
Frominitialdefaultfactoryconguration,
the device instance number (DevID) is
conguredautomaticallyusingManufacturer
ID(CarrierBACnetmanufactureridentier)
when setting the MAC address in order to
preventnetworkaddressconict.
The following formula is used to automatically
determine the device instance number:
DevID = ManufacturerID ×1000 + MAC
For example:
ManufacturerID: 16; MAC: 50
DevID = 16×1000 + 50 = 16050
The device instance number must be
unique over the network.
In the case of multiple MSTP segments on
the same network, the device instance
number must be set manually using a
network tool, including the subnetwork
number when setting the MAC Address to
preventnetworkaddressconict.
It is necessary to choose a unique subnetwork
number for each MSTP segment (subnet).
This subnetwork number is set through the
BACnetMSTPadaptercongurationtool.
The following formula is used to manually
determine the device instance number:
DevID =
ManufacturerID x 10 000
+
SubnetID x 100
+
MAC
For example:
ManufacturerID:16
SubnetID:20
MAC:50
DevID = 16x10000 + 20x100 + 50 = 162050
The Device Instance can be changed once the
controller has been commissioned through
the network management software interface.
IMPORTANT: Once the Device Instance has
been changed manually, it will not be
anymore possible to congure it automatically
while changing the MAC address.
Accordingtoinitialfactoryconguration,MAC
address is set to 126 and DIP switch is set to 0
.
The MAC address is the sum of the numbers set
toON.Forexample,ifthesecond(2),fth(16),
and sixth (32) DIP switches are set to ON, the
device MAC address is 50 (2 + 16 + 32).
Only addresses from 3 to 127 are
recommended to be used.
