3.4 PRE-MILLING UNIT E550 PM - E550 PM CR
Description of unit
The unit is composed of two high frequency motors rotating at a speed of 12,000 rpm, on which two longlife
diamond millers are mounted, to remove shavings from the panel.
Shavings are removed from the panel so as to:
- eliminate chipping on the Formica created during panel cutting and squaring;
- eliminate incision cutting defects;
- regulate removal according to edgeband thickness;
- generally improve the gluing line and adherence of the edgeband to the panel.
The quantity of material removed depends on the position of the adjustable entry guide (Fig. 3.4).
The adjustable guide is tted on a pair of machined steel wedges.
One of the two wedges is static, and the other can be moved using knob H, after rst releasing knob X, to
adjust the position of the feed guide G. Finally tighten knob X again.
The adjustment knob is linked to the numerical indicator, which allows guide position to be read off in
tenths of a millimetre
The continuous use of the unit with tools that are not correctly sharpened may cause overheating, and the
consequent of the unit by the PLC.
Operation
The two motors of the unit move independently on two mobile supports, driven by two pneumatic pistons
commanded by the PLC.
Microswitch M is activated by the panel to trigger the cutterhead unit work cycle, if the unit has been
enabled with button 7 on the control panel.
During the operating cycle, the rst cutterhead B moves forward towards the work position, and then
moves back shortly before the end of the panel.
This allows the rst cutterhead B, which turns in the opposite direction from the panel forward movement,
to remove a shaving to prevent splintering on the panel corner.
The rst cutterhead removes 95% of the length of the side to be edged, and the remaining 5% is removed
by the second cutterhead C, which turns in the same direction as panel advance. This prevents splintering
on the nal part of the panel.
During the shaving removal cycle, air jet D keeps dust away from the glue pot.
The special design of the dust hoods combined with a good suction system allows the machine to be kept
clean easily.
If button 7 on the control panel is not pressed, the two motors are not activated, and the compressed air
pistons keep the unit back, without removing a shaving from the panel.
The only purpose of knobs E and F is to permit ne adjustments of the unit after tool sharpening.
NEVER USE THESE KNOBS TO ADJUST SHAVING REMOVAL.

For the adjustment of the knob E and F use two wrenches, CH22 and CH17.
With the two wrenches, loosen the nuts X keeping xed the knobs E and F.
Adjust the removal acting on the knobs E and F.
