6) Make sure that the examination required is correctly
selected, observing CLOSED MOUTH or
OPEN MOUTH icon.
Note, in case of examination with open mouth, the
light trace translates forward: in fact, when the mouth
is wide opened, the patient’s condyle comes out of the
mandibular fossa and moves forward.
Use keys to position the vertical
focusing light trace exactly on the condyle head, as
shown in the figure.
* the canine reference is useful to optimise the patient’s
alignment, but it is not strictly necessary.
7) Press the CONFIRMATION button and, immediately before leaving the room to press the X-ray emission button,
ask the patient to close his/her eyes and remain still.
5.4.5.2. FRONTAL TMJ
Follow the steps as for the TMJ LATERAL examination
but acting differently in steps 4 and 6 as follows:
Position the patient’s head not according to the Frankfurt
plane but so that the horizontal light trace passes from the
upper margin of the orbit to the upper margin of the
auditory meatus in such a way that these two points are
on the same horizontal plane, as shown in the figure.
To adjust the head inclination, just raise or lower the unit
using the height adjustment buttons.
