Chapter 2
Cylinder and Components
30 SAFETY FIRST Edition 1December 2019
MSA G1 Electronic Breathing Apparatus
A fully charged battery will take approximately four months to fully lose
charge when left in a BA set which is in continuous sleep mode.
Inserting battery in unpressurised BA or without a cylinder attached
If a battery is inserted into the power module without a cylinder being attached to the
battery, or a cylinder is attached but not pressurised, the system will still go through the
normal pre-start checks. If no pressure is detected in the system, the following will
occur:
the control module display screen will turn red and display three white space bars
indicating no pressure;
the manual alarm button will illuminate red; and
an electronic chirp will sound regularly from the piezo speakers.
The above will continue until one of the following is actioned:
a cylinder is attached and opened;
an attached cylinder is opened;
the battery is removed; or
the system is put into sleep mode (pressing either of the green RESET buttons on
the control module twice within one second).
MSA six-bay smart battery charger
The MSA smart charger can charge up to six batteries at once.
To recharge a battery, insert the rechargeable battery into the charger, and note the
charging indicators detailed in Table 2.
