Chapter 2
Cylinder and Components
52 SAFETY FIRST Edition 1December 2019
MSA G1 Electronic Breathing Apparatus
All electronic audible alarms are only emitted from the two piezo
speakers
located on either side of the power module.
Notwithstanding the completion of a Dynamic Risk Assessment
(DRA), all
operators shall
immediately
exit the fireground upon the
activation of the
100 bar electronic low pressure warning alarm.
The 100
bar electronic low pressure warning alarm (including the
subsequent
mechanical low pressure warning whistle at 55 ± 5 bar) must
be
considered asafety buffer’ allowing operators sufficient time to exit
any
incident to fresh air, retrieve their tally tags from BA entry and
complete
decontamination whileon air’.
Thermal alarm
The control module monitors thermal conditions and provides an indication if a
temperature/time curve is exceeded.
If the operator is exposed to more than the pre-set limit of thermal load (ratio of
temperature/time), the following will occur:
HUD: Blue triangle will flash;
Audible alarm: Beep every 10 seconds;
Icon on control module: temperature gauge icon on secondary screen will be red.
The graph below shows the control module thermal alarm activation curve. The
temperature/time limits correspond to this graph. The alarm will self-cancel
depending
on the severity of conditions. Wetting on the control module,
and thereby cooling it, may
bring the ratio below the thermal curve even though
prevailing environmental conditions
are still above the curve.
