Chapter 2
Cylinder and Components
Edition 1 – December 2019 SAFETY FIRST 55
MSA G1 Electronic Breathing Apparatus
Pressure drop alarm
During use the power module constantly monitors system air pressure and alerts
the
operator to leaks. System pressure is monitored over 15 second periods. If
a pressure
drop in excess of 10 bar is detected in that period, the pressure drop
alarm is activated
and the following lights/sounds activate:
blue flashing triangle in the HUD;
buddy lights flash red;
audible alarm sounds;
pressure drop icons alternate on the control module primary screen.
The operator should immediately exit the incident to fresh air to determine why
the leak
is occurring.
Follow these steps to deactivate the alarm.
Step Description
1 Rectify the pressure loss problem.
2 Reset the alarm
by pressing either RESET buttons twice in one second.
3 If unable to rectify the
pressure loss problem,
turn the cylinder off fully and purge the system;
shut down
the BA as per normal shut down procedure. (Refer to Chapter 3
– Breathing Apparatus
Operation).
Accidental pressure drop
In the event of an accidental pressure drop, such as the facemask momentarily
dislodging
from the face resulting in sudden air loss, the alarm can be reset by pressing
the
green RESET buttons twice within one second. The alarm can only be reset once
the power module has completed a second 15 second pressure check without detecting
a pressure drop of more than 10 bar.
When shutting down a BA and bleeding the air down to zero, the pressure
drop alarm will nearly always be activated
during, and at the conclusion of
conducting the Audible Warning Signals
(low-air alarms) check.
