Verify that autoregistration is enabled and is properly configured in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Administration before you connect any Cisco IP Phone to the network. For information about enabling and
configuring autoregistration, see the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Guide.
Autoregistration must be enabled in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration for TAPS to
function.
Procedure
Step 1
In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, click System > Cisco Unified CM.
Step 2
Select the required server and then select the Autoregister check box.
Step 3
Click Save.

Install Cisco Unified IP Phone
You must connect the Cisco Unified IP Phone to the network and to a power source before using it. See Phone
Connections for the connections for Cisco Unified IP Phone 8941 or Phone Connections for the connections
for Cisco Unified IP Phone 8945.
Before you install a phone, even if it is new, upgrade the phone to the current firmware image. Before
using external devices, read External Devices for safety and performance information.
Note
To install a Cisco Unified IP Phone, perform the following tasks.
Procedure
Step 1
Choose the power source for the phone:
Power over Ethernet (PoE)
External power supply
See Phone Power Requirementsfor guidelines.
Step 2
Connect the handset to the Handset port.
Step 3
(Optional) Connect a headset to the Headset port. You can add a headset later if you do not connect one now.
See Headsets.
Step 4
Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable from the switch to the network port labeled Network on the Cisco
Unified IP Phone 8941 and 8945. Each Cisco Unified IP Phone ships with one Ethernet cable in the box.
You can use either Category 3, 5, or 5e cabling for 10Mbps connections, but you must use Category 5 or 5e
for 100 or 1000 Mbps connections.
