Dolby Digital
Dolby Laboratories audio compress ion
technology that allows up to 6 channels
(R ight, Left, C enter, S urround R ight,
S urround Left and S ubwoofer) in one audio
stream (AC 3). Most DVDs contain Dolby
Digital audio.
Dolby S urround
Dolby Laboratories audio encoding
technology that combines the information for
two additional channels (C enter, S urround)
in a standard stereo signal. The Dolby
S urround signal can be played on any stereo
equipment, however a Dolby S urround
Decoder is needed to separate the C enter
and S urround channels from the s tereo channels.

two layers of digital information. The
maximum amount of data on a single-layer ,
single-sided DVD can be up to 4.7 G igabytes.
A two-layer double-sided DVD can be
up to 18 G igabytes.
