1.6 - Boiler Water Piping
1.6.1 - General
All boiler hot water outlet and return piping is connected at the rear of the boiler. Piping is to be installed
per local codes and regulations. The pipelines for the hot water outlet and return may be connected in
the usual manner without removing the cladding elements. Unused connectors must be safely blanked
off.
1.6.2 - Safety valve
The pressure relief valve (safety valve) should be piped from the
coupling on the hot water outlet pipe (see Figure 1-13). Pipe to a
safe point of discharge.
Use pipe sealing compound and a flat sided wrench when
securing the Safety relief valve. Do not use a pipe wrench and do
not over tighten the relief valve. The safety valve must be mounted
in a vertical position so that discharge piping and code-required
drains can be properly piped to prevent buildup of back pressure
and accumulation of foreign material around the valve seat area.
Apply only a moderate amount of pipe compound to male threads
and avoid overtightening, which can distort the seats. Use only
flat-jawed wrenches on the flats provided.
An air vent (Figure 1-14) is required and can be ordered with the
boiler or sourced locally.
1.6.3 - Dual return design
The Model CFC-E features separate high and low temperature
return water connections, allowing for condensing performance
within high temperature hydronic systems. With as little as 10%
return water at or below 120 deg F, the Model CFC-E will achieve
condensing performance, with associated gains in efficiency.
If using only a single (common) return,
the lower return connection should be
used and the upper return flanged off.
No special valves or dedicated pumps
are required for dual return applications.
Contact your local representative for
more information.
Only properly certified personnel such as the safety valve manufacturer’s certified
representative should adjust or repair the boiler safety valve. Failure to follow this
warning could result in serious personal injury or death.
