  If your CM Chain Hoists will not operate at slow speed in either direction, consider these possibilities: * There may be an open circuit due to an open or shorted motor winding, a loose or broken wire, or a speed selecting contactor stuck in the opposite speed mode. Replace the motor, repair the wire, and/or replace the speed selecting contactor. * There could be a phase failure. Check for electrical continuity and repair or replace defective part.

  Several factors can cause a CM Chain Hoists motor to overheat: * Low voltage can cause the motor to overheat. Correct the low voltage condition. * Excessive load can strain the motor. Reduce the load to the hoist's capacity limit. * Extreme external heat, especially above 40°C (104°F), requires limiting the frequency of hoist operation or improving ventilation and shielding. * Frequent starting or reversing can overheat the motor. Avoid excessive inching, jogging, or plugging to prolong motor and contactor life and reduce brake wear. * Phase failure or unbalanced current in the phases can lead to overheating.   If the hook on your CM Chain Hoists moves in the wrong direction, here are a few things to check: * For single-phase units, wiring connections may be reversed at the control station or terminal board. Compare the connections to the wiring diagram. * Also for single-phase units, the motor reversing switch might fail to effect dynamic braking at the time of reversal. Check the connections to the switch and replace any damaged or faulty capacitor. * For three-phase units, there may be a phase reversal.
