Appendix B How
to
Configure Your System
2551
Shell
Purpose:
Begins
execution
of
the shell (top-level
command
processor)
from
a file defined by the specified pathname.
Syntax:
shell
= [drive: Jpathname
Comments:
The
pathname
option specifies
the
program that MS·
DOS
uses
as a
command
processor. Instead
of
reading
the
standard
commandcom,
MS·DOS starts
the
processor
specified in
pathname.
System programmers
who
write
their
own
command
processors
(instead
of
using the MS·
DOS
file,
command
com)
should
also use
shell.
Example:
The following
command
uses
the
file \
bin
\ newshell as
the
com-
mand processor:
shell=\bin\newshell
