2.1 Overview
LU1 is a single-slot unit designed for networks requirin g hi gh switching capacity and multiple high
speed Ethernet interfaces for e nabling smooth technology and capacity migration driven by HSPA
and LTE growth. T he main applications of LU1 are MPLS trunking over the 10/100-Gigabit Ethernet
links in mesh or ring topology, and IP or IP VPN service end point, for example at the RNC site.
LU1 combines 1 30 Gbp/s with a single operational SU1 and 200 Gbp/s w ith tw o operational SU1s
switching capacity, and two operating mo des with the following p ort configuration options at
wire speed:
• 1x100GBASE-R (CFP2) + 1 4x1/10GBASE-R (SFP+/SFP)
• 24x1000BASE-X/10GBASE-R (SFP+/SFP)
As not all the ports can be used at the same time, one of the supported modes has to be selected. For
more information on the operating modes, see chapter 2.4 Interfaces.
As all the other 8600 cards, LU1 is hot-swappable.
The maximum configuration of six LU 1 can b e ach ieved either with one or two 8 665 Smart Router
DC48 power inpu t modules in the 8665 Smart Router subrack.
Each LU1 has a direct connection via the backplane to both sw itch units in 8665 Smart Rou ter.
2.2 Main Features

functions (NPU subsystem s)
• High speed backplane data link s w ith switch units
• Four LED s showing card status
• External alarm and timing interfaces
• Operation voltage monitoring and card temperature measurement
• I2C bus for accessing devices such as EEPROMs, A/D converters and temperature sensors
• Serial EEPROM for the factory parameters
• Reference and equipment clock (SEC) selector and monitoring
