3 Switch Unit (SU1)
3.1 Overview
SU1 provides 900 Gbps sw itch ing capacity for the network elemen t and also control channel
Ethernet switching at 90 G bps.
As all the other 8600 cards, SU1 is hot-swappable.
In 8665 Smart Router the maximum configuration of two SU1s is s up ported, but the network
element is fully functional with one SU1.
Each LU1 has a direct connection via the backplane to both sw itch units in 8665 Smart Rou ter.
Coriant rec ommends to use alw ay s two SU1s in 8665 Smart Ro
uter.
3.2 Main Features
• CPU subsystem
• SD-card for application software, field upgrade possible

• Operation voltage monitoring and card temperature measurement
• I2C bus for accessing devi
ces such as EEPROMs, A/D converters and temperature sensors
• Serial EEPROM for the factory parameters
3.3 Operation
The function of SU
1 is to perform packet switching be tween the line units on data and control p lane
levels. Control and data plane traffic is separated inside the chassis and they cannot disturb each
other in any situation. The CPU subsystem is used to control the switch unit functionality.
