Check that the operational tempera ture range of the SFP
/SFP+/CFP2 module is suitable for
the installation environment. Note that the temperature of the SFP/SFP+/CFP2 case can be
approximately 15 degrees higher than the ambient temp
erature. For more information on the
allowed SFP/SFP+/ CFP2 case temperature range see chapter Pluggable Transceivers in 8600
Smart Routers H ard ware Installation Guide.
2.9 LU1 Cooling
It is important to ensure that adequate cooling is used when an LU1 is installed in a su brack. LU1
has temperature sensors that monitor the unit temperatures during operation. LU1 can endure a
single fan failure but if two or all the fans of one fan mo dule fail, the LU1 located abov e it will go to
power-save mode after 6 minutes.

This occurs at aroun d +45° C/+113° F ambient. Another reason why this warning can be active is if
the air ow is decreased, which can be caused by a dirty air lter in the subrack. There are also
critical temperature limits w hich will cause the cards to go to power-save mode if they are exceeded.
All em pty line unit slots have to be sh ielded with blank cover plates.
