1.1.2 Unit Slots
There are 8 slo ts in 8665 Smart Router, of which 6 (slots 2...4 on the left side and slots 11...13 on the
right side) are available for the line units with user traffic interfaces. The central slot, divided into
two slots (7 and 8) is reserved for the two switch units, SU1s.
At least one SU 1 mus t be installed into one of the switch slots for the 8665 Smart Rou ter to be
operational. Equipping the second slot with an SU1 is highly recommended, although the need for it
depends on p ro tection requirements. All units are hot-removable and hot-insertable.
Besides the physical slots, logical slots 1 and 14 are reserved for the control functionality running on
the line units. Refer to chapter Co ntrol Functionality (CU) for more informatio n.

8665 Smart Rou ter Line Unit ( LU1)
8665 Smart Router line unit LU1 has the following interfaces:
• 1x100GE (CPF2) + 2 4x1/10GE (SFP+/SFP) with two user selectable operating mod es:
• 1x100GE (CPF2) + 14x1/10GE (SFP+/SFP)
• 24x1/10GE SFP+/SFP
LU1 contains the following functional features:
• High speed data links w ith the switch unit
• Line interfaces
• Local power supply
• CPU for control plane processin g
• Network processor for packet processing
• Tim ing i nterfaces and stable OCXO clock
