2 Line Unit (LU1)
2.3 Operation
The function of LU1 is to perform layer 2 and layer 3 packet switching, packet forwarding, packet
filtering and traffic m anag emen t functions. The CPU su bsystem is used to control LU1 functionality.
The fig ure below presents the LU1 functional block diagram.

2.3.1 CPU Subsystem
The CPU subsystem uses a high p erforman ce 64-bit RISC processor with the following mem ories:
• DDR3 D RAM
• Application FLASH (SD-memory card)
•BootFLASH
The application software is stored in FLASH memory. Thus, it is possible to update th e software
on the field when new softw are feature packs become availab le. Similarly, th e card and interface
parametersarestoredinFLASH,sothosearerestoredafterreset.
