TO START A COLD ENGINE
1. Be sure auger control lever is in the disengaged (RELEASED)
position.
2. Rotate the choke control (A, Figure 12) counter clockwise to
the CHOKE position.

3. (Electric Start) Plug the power cord into the starter motor on
the engine. Plug the other end of power cord into a three-hole,
grounded 120 volt, AC receptacle.
4. Push the primer button (A) two times.
NOTE: DO NOT use the primer to start a warm engine.
5. (Electric Start) Connect the power cord to the engine and de-
press the starter button (A, Figure 14). To prolong the life of the
starter, do not crank for more than 5 seconds at a time. Wait
one minute between starts to allow the starter motor to cool.

6. (Recoil Start) Slowly pull the recoil starter handle (A, Figure 15)
until resistance is felt and then pull rapidly to start the engine.
Do not allow the recoil starter handle to snap back. Slowly return
the recoil starter handle.

7. If the engine does not start in 5 or 6 tries, See “Difficult
Starting” in the TROUBLESHOOTING chart.
8. Allow the engine to warm up for several minutes. As the en-
gine warms up, adjust the choke control (A, Figure 12) toward
the RUN position. Wait until the engine runs smoothly before
each choke adjustment.
9. (Electric Start) First disconnect power cord from receptacle.
Then, disconnect the power cord from the switch box.
If after following the preceding instructions, your engine fails to
start, have the engine checked by an authorized dealer.
TO START A WARM ENGINE
If restarting a warm engine after a short shutdown, leave the
choke lever in the off position and do not push the primer button.
If the engine fails to start, follow the Cold Start instructions.
