Attaching the Battery Cables
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65
Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthePOSITIVE(Red)
wiretoits terminalfirst,followedby theNEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromthe terminalsat thefactory.Toconnect
thebatterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).Thenegative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(i).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcableto thepositivebatteryterminal
(+)withthebolt andhexnut.See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminaland attachtheblackcabletothe negativebattery
terminal(-) withthebolt andhexnut.SeeFigure1.

3. Positionthe redrubberbootoverthe positivebatteryterminalto
helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE:If thebatteryisput intoserviceafterthedateshownon topof
battery,chargethebatteryas instructedintheService& Maintenance
sectionofthis manualpriorto operatingthe tractor.
Shipping Brace Removal
Makesuretheridingmower'sengineisoff, removetheignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingthe shippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionfor instructionsonhowto setthe parking
lbrake.
Locatethe shippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarning
tagfoundonthe rightsideof themower,betweenthedischarge
chutedeflectorandthe cuttingdeck. SeeFig.2.

Placethedecklift leverinthehighestcuttingposition.Referto
SettingtheCuttingHeightin the Operationsectionof thismanual.
Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedforpackagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyour ridingmower.
Themowingdeck iscapableof throwingobjects.Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthedischargecoverin the properoperating
Ipositioncould resultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthesteeringwheelforyourtractordid notcomeattached,the
hardwareforattachingithasbeenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththe steeringwheelcap.Carefullypry off thesteeringwheel
capandremovethe hardware.
1. Withthe wheelsof thetractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthesteeringshaft.
2. Placethe washer(withthecuppedsidedown)overthe steering
wheeland securewiththehex bolt.SeeFig.3.
