SAFETY iNTERLOCK SYSTEM
Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedforsafeoperationofthetrac-
tor.Ifthis systemshouldever malfunction,do not operatethetractor,
Immediatelycontact1-800-4-MY-HOMEto havethesystemserviced.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventsthe enginefromstarting
unlesstheparkingbrakeisengagedandthe PTO(BladeEngage)
leverisin thedisengaged(OFF)position.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoffthe engineif
theoperatorleavestheseatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoffthe engine
iftheoperatorleavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)leverengaged,regardlessofwhetherthe parkingbrake
isengaged.
IGNITION SWITCH
Theignitionswitchisactivatedto starttheengine,insertkeyintothe
ignitionswitchandturnclockwisetothe STARTposition.Releasethe
keyintothe ON positiononce enginehasfired.
Tostopthe engine,turntheignitionkeycounterclockwisetothe OFF
position.

Start
off
Neverleavea runningmachineunattended.AlwaysdisengagePTO,
moveshiftleverintoneutralposition,setparkingbrake,stopengine
andremovekeyto preventunintendedstarting.
ENGAGING THE PARKING BRAKE
To engage the parking brake:
1. Fullydepressthebrakepedalandholdit downwithyour foot.
2. Movethespeedcontrolleverallthe waydownandintothe
parkingbrakeposition.
3. Releasethebrakepedalto allowtheparkingbraketo engage.
To release the parking brake:
1. Depressthebrakepedalandmovethe speedcontrolleveroutof
theparkingbrakepositionandintoa desiredspeed.
SETTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT
1. Selecttheheightpositionofthe cuttingdeckby placingthedeck
liftleverinanyofthe differentcuttingheightnotcheson the right
sideofthe fender.
2. Adjustthe deck wheelssothattheyarebetween1A-inchand
Y2-inchabovethe groundwhenthe tractoris ona smooth,fiat
surfacesuchas a driveway.
To adjust Deck Wheels:
1. Removetheflangelocknuton the shoulderboltsecuringthe
deckwheel.
2. Positionthe wheelto thedesiredheightaslistedabove.SeeFig.

3. Securethe shoulderboltwiththe flangelocknut.
Keephandsandfeetawayfromthe dischargeopeningofthe cutting
deck.
NOTE:Thedeckwheelsarean anti-scalpfeatureofthe deckand
are notdesignedto supportthe weightof the cuttingdeck. Referto
LevelingintheMaintenance& Servicesectionofthismanualformore
detailedinstructionsregardingvariousdeckadjustments.

STARTING THE ENGINE
Donotoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemismalfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedforyoursafetyand protection.
NOTE:Referto theGasolineandOilfill-upinstructionsearlierin this
section.
1. Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2. Placethe PTO(BladeEngage)leverin thedisengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolby movingthethrottle/chokeleverall
thewayupintothechokeposition.
