Neverstorelawntractorwithfuel intankindoorsorin poorly
ventilatedareaswherefuelfumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
orpilotlightas ona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
IMPORTANT:Fuelleftin thefuel tankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwill causeseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidethe engine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,thefuel systemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,orthe gasolinemustbe treatedwitha
stabilizertopreventdeterioration.
1. Ifusingafuel stabilizer:
a. Readthe productmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecom-
mendations.
b. Addto clean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountofstabilizer
forthe capacityofthe fuelsystem.
c. Fillthefueltankwithtreatedfuel andruntheenginefor 2-3
minutestogetstabilizedfuelintothe carburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthefuel system:
a. Donotdrainfuel whentheengineis hot.Allowthe engine
adequatetimeto cool.Drainfuelinto anapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainany largevolumeoffuel fromthetank bydisconnect-
ing thefuellinefromthein-linefuel filterneartheengine.

Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcan beexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringtheequipmentfor extended
periods.Drainfuelonlyintoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,away
froman openflame.Allowenginetocool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof ignitionpriorto drainingfuel.
Storegasolineinan approvedcontainerinsafelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuel lineandrunthe engineuntilit startsto
falter,thenusethechoketo keeptheenginerunninguntilall
fuelin thecarburetorhas beenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuellineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthesystem.
DRAiNiNG THE FUEL
1. Locatethefuel filter,whichis locatedonthe leftsideof the
engine,andmaybe attachedtothe enginewitha tiestrap.
2. Cutthetie strap,ifpresent,thenpinchthe in-lineclamponthe
fuelfilterwitha pairof pliers,slidetheclampupthe fuelline.
3. Pullthefuel linefreefromthe filterandplacethe openendof the
lineintoanapprovedcontainerto drainthefuel.
PREPARING THE LAWN TRACTOR
1. Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyas describedinthe lubrica-
tioninstructions.
2. Donotusea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto cleanyourunit.
3. Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea. Donotstorenextto corrosive
materials,suchas fertilizer.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeofgasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocalauthoritiesfor approveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceof engineoil
throughthesparkplugholeintothe cylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimestodistributetheoil. Replacethesparkplug.
