C-4 Troubleshooting
Problem System hangs or reboots during the 16-bit digitized
sound test, but it works fine during the 8-bit test.
Cause Your systems motherboard cannot handle 16-bit DMA
transfer properly. On some machines, the DMA
controller on the motherboard does not function
properly during High DMA transfers. High DMA
transfers on such machines might corrupt the data in
main memory and cause the system to hang or
encounter a parity error.
Solution Use the 8-bit DMA channel to transfer 16-bit data. Run
the Plug and Play configuration utility and select a
configuration that uses Low DMA channel only. 16-bit
audio data will then be transferred through the Low
DMA channel.
When you set your High DMA channel to Low DMA,
you will lose the full-duplex operation, which requires
two separate DMA channels.
Problems in Windows 3.1x
The following are problems you might encounter when in
Windows 3.1x:
Problem No sound is heard when running your audio card’s
Windows applications.
Cause One or more of the sound drivers might not be included
in the SYSTEM.INI file.
Solution Check the SYSTEM.INI file. To do so:
1. On the File menu in Program Manager, click Run.
2. In the Command Line box, type SYSEDIT and
click the OK button.
