Replacing Command Station Memory Battery
Your command station uses a single 20mmx16mm (abbreviated 2016) Lithium coin-cell battery
to retain system setup information inside an internal memory chip called an “SRAM.” The
lithium battery is installed and tested before the Command Station is shipped. Do not use any
other type of battery - only 3V lithium cells can be used.
Under normal operating conditions, a high quality battery will last about 3 years before needing
replacement. However, cheap batteries usually only last about a year. Regardless, w strongly
recommend that the battery be replaced about once a year. Failure to replace the battery before it
discharges will result in erratic operation, loss of locomotive information and/or an unreadable
display.
Changing the battery is easy and takes only a minute or so.
Do not turn off power when changing the battery or you may lose all of your locomotive
information.

Changing The Battery
The coin cell battery is a standard 20mm 3V
Lithium coin cell. The Energizer part number
is 2016 Be sure to replace with the same type.
Always leave power turned on when
replacing batteries. Without power, the data
in the memory will be scrambled and useless
when the battery is removed. If this occurs,
you will have to re-enter consists and
changes to any factory defaults such as
speed-steps.
Decoders and throttles are not affected - but
reentering consists is a nuisance, so leave the
Command Station plugged in when changing
the battery.
Proper battery orientation is required. The positive side of the battery, which is also marked
with a plus, faces up. The positive side of the battery is labeled with a big + and the brand name.
To remove the old battery, gently pull up the positive tab and slip the battery out of the holder.
Install the new battery in the same way. Pull back the tab and slip the battery in from the side.
