Advanced Consists - Examples and Features
An Advanced Consist (ADV) is created at the Command Station. All locomotives to be included
in the ADV must be on the layout and powered. It is a good idea to arrange all the locomotives to
be placed into the Advanced Consist in the desired order before building the consist. An
Advanced Consists provide the fastest possible system performance for a group of locomotives
because only a single command is sent to which all locomotives in the Advanced Consist react.
An Advanced Consist also provides the best options for tailoring each consisted locomotive to
behave as desired for a specific function control.
The EasyDCC Advanced Consist address range is 1 to 99. When the consist is built, the selected
consist address will be programmed into each locomotive's decoder as a “secondary” address.
This is why all locomotives to be used in an Advanced Consist must be on the layout and powered
up.
Understanding the ADVANCED CONSIST Setup Display
Creating or editing an Advanced Consist always starts with the
same initial set of keystrokes. Push the SETUP key and then push
the ADVCON key (the 9 key).
Enter the desired consist number which must be in the range of 1
to 99. For this example, 7 is the advanced consist address. The
display then shows the 3 available commands.
ACons# 0007 is the Advanced Consist address you just entered.
1=Add. Means push the 1 key to tell the command station you want to add the 1st or lead
locomotive to the advanced consist. Seven more loco addresses may be added, for a maximum of
8 loco addresses in ACons# 0007.
2=Remove means push the 2 key to remove or delete a specific locomotive address from ACons#
0007
3=Kill means push the 3 key to remove the ACons# 0007 from memory. Any locomotives that
were in the consist now respond to their original address.
Setting Locomotive Direction Orientation
You will be asked to enter either R for reversed orientation or N
for normal orientation for each locomotive added to the consist.
Normal is relative to the forward direction of the consist, i.e. the direction the consist will move
when the throttle's direction switch is set to forward. If the locomotive cab is pointing in the
consist's forward direction, its orientation is Normal. If the locomotive is facing backward, its
orientation is Reversed. Use the R and the N keys located under the ACCESSORIES button for
entering reversed and normal direction entry. The locomotives, their cab numbers and their
orientation are show below for this example.

Automatic Registration Of Consisted Locomotives
Any locomotive address that is "new" to the Command Station, is
automatically registered and managed by the command station when assigned
to a consist. No action is required on your part unless you want to change the
default system speed steps. The new addresses do not have to be connected to a
throttle or manually registered to be used in a consist.
