How to fix orange peel texture with DeVilbiss CVI?
    • P
      phillip05Sep 4, 2025
If you're getting a thick, dimpled finish, also known as "orange peel," with your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer, it could be because the gun is too close to the surface, the air pressure is too low, an improper thinner is being used, the material isn't properly mixed, or the surface is rough, oily, or dirty. Check the distance, ensuring it's normally around 8 inches. Increase the air pressure or reduce fluid flow, follow the paint manufacturer's mixing instructions, and properly clean and prepare the surface.

Why is fluid dripping from the bottom of the cup on my DeVilbiss CVI Paint Sprayer?
    • J
      Jeremiah DonovanSep 18, 2025
Fluid dripping or leaking from the bottom of the cup on your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer can be caused by a cup that is loose on the gun, a worn or missing cup gasket below the cup, or dirty cup threads. Tighten the cup, replace the cup gasket if necessary, and clean the threads.

      Tony EnglishSep 16, 2025
If you notice paint bubbling in the cup of your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer, it's likely that the fluid tip isn't tight enough. Tighten the tip to between 9.5-12 Nm (80-100 lbf in.).

      Mark VargasSep 14, 2025
Fluid leaking or dripping from the cup lid of your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer could be due to a loose cup lid, dirty threads on the cup or lid, or a cracked cup or lid. Try pushing in or tightening the lid. If that doesn't work, clean the threads. If the issue persists, replace the cup and lid.

    • A
      Aaron Jenkins MDSep 13, 2025
If you're unable to get a round spray pattern from your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer, it could be that the spreader adjustment screw is not seating properly or the air cap retaining ring is loose. Try cleaning or replacing the spreader adjustment screw and tightening the retaining ring.

Fluid leaking from the packing nut of your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer is usually caused by a loose packing nut or a worn/dry packing. Try tightening the nut, being careful not to bind the needle. If that doesn't work, replace or lubricate the packing.

How to correct a heavy top or bottom spray pattern with my DeVilbiss CVI?
    • L
      Lisa HebertSep 9, 2025
If your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer is producing a heavy top or bottom pattern, it's likely due to plugged horn holes or an obstruction on the top or bottom of the fluid tip, or a dirty cap and/or tip seat. Clean the affected areas, reaming any plugged holes with a non-metallic point.

What causes a heavy right or left side pattern with my DeVilbiss CVI?
    • N
      Nicholas WilliamsonSep 7, 2025
A heavy right or left side pattern with your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer is often due to plugged horn holes on the corresponding side, or dirt on that side of the fluid tip. Clean the affected horn holes, reaming with a non-metallic point, and clean the fluid tip. To further diagnose, determine if the obstruction is on the air cap or fluid tip by making a test spray pattern, then rotating the cap one-half turn. If the defect inverts, clean the air cap. If not, check the fluid tip for a fine burr or dried paint, removing as necessary.

How to avoid a thin, sandy finish with my DeVilbiss CVI Paint Sprayer?
    • J
      Jason TownsendSep 6, 2025
To avoid a thin, sandy, coarse finish that dries before it flows out when using your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer, check the distance between the gun and the surface, normally around 8 inches. Reduce the air pressure and check the spray pattern. Also, follow the paint manufacturer's mixing instructions for the thinner.

Why my DeVilbiss CVI Paint Sprayer will not spray?
    • A
      Allison PopeAug 21, 2025
If your DeVilbiss Paint Sprayer isn't spraying, it could be due to a few reasons. First, there might not be any air pressure reaching the gun. Check your air supply and lines, and blow out the gun's air passages. Second, the fluid needle adjusting screw may not be open enough; try opening it further. Finally, the fluid you're using might be too thick for gravity feed; in this case, thin the material or switch to a larger tip size.
