Overview

This document is an installation and user's guide for the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold electric fireplace, covering models XLF5017-XD, XLF6017-XD, XLF7417-XD, XLF8817-XD, and XLF10017-XD. It provides comprehensive instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining the fireplace, emphasizing safety and optimal performance.

The Dimplex IgniteXL Bold electric fireplace is designed to provide a realistic flame effect and supplemental heat, enhancing the ambiance and comfort of any room. Its primary function is to offer a visually appealing and warm focal point without the need for traditional fuel sources, venting, or extensive maintenance. The fireplace incorporates Comfort$aver™ technology, which intelligently adjusts fan speed and heater wattage to maintain a desired room temperature efficiently. This system ensures that once the set point is reached, the fan and heater continue to operate at a low level, preventing significant temperature fluctuations and optimizing energy consumption.

Key usage features include a variety of flame effects and media bed lighting options, allowing users to customize the visual experience. The fireplace offers seven different flame themes, ranging from base flames with orange and blue accents to solid blue or orange flames. Additionally, there are eight different "Moods" that combine overhead and media bed lighting in various ways, including white, blue, violet, red, green, prism (cycling through colors), kaleidoscope (cycling through colors at different rates), and midnight mode (overhead and media lights off). Users can also freeze the media and overhead lights on a custom color when in prism or kaleidoscope modes.

The fireplace can be controlled via hidden touch controls located on the upper right of the unit, a multifunction IR remote control, or the Flame Connect app for mobile devices. The remote control must be pointed towards the front of the unit for correct operation. The app integration provides a modern and convenient way to manage the fireplace settings.

Temperature control is precise, allowing users to set the temperature between 7°C and 30°C (45°F and 86°F). When adjusting the temperature, the set temperature flashes for two seconds, followed by a brief display of the ambient room temperature. The heater offers four modes: Normal (automatic adjustment to maintain set temperature), Eco (reduced power for energy saving), Heat Boost (maximum power for 20 minutes, then reverts to normal), and Fan (fan only, heater off).

A timer function allows the fireplace to turn off automatically after a set amount of time, configurable from 30 minutes to 8 hours in 30-minute intervals. The ambient light sensor can be activated to automatically adjust the brightness of the fireplace lights based on the room's ambient light. The brightness and flicker modes of the flame effect can also be cycled through, offering solid low or high brightness, or low or high brightness with flickering media and overhead lights.

For installations where heat is not desired, the heater and fan can be permanently disabled by removing an electronic jumper on the main control board. Alternatively, temporary heat disablement can be achieved through the hidden touch controls. The fireplace retains its previously used settings after a power interruption.

Safety is a paramount concern, with several warnings and precautions outlined in the manual. Users are advised to read all instructions before use to prevent electric shock, fire hazards, and property damage. High temperatures can be generated, so the front of the fireplace should not be obstructed, and combustible materials should be kept at least 3 feet (0.9 m) away. The fireplace is hot when in use, and bare skin should not touch hot surfaces, especially the trim around the heater outlet. Extreme caution is necessary when children or individuals with disabilities are nearby. The unit should always be turned off when not in use and should not be operated if it malfunctions or is damaged. It is not designed for outdoor use or installation near water containers like bathtubs. Foreign objects should not be inserted into ventilation or exhaust openings.

The electrical installation must comply with local and national electrical codes. A dedicated, properly fused 15 Amp circuit is recommended. The manual provides detailed wiring diagrams for 120 V and 240 V hardwire installations, as well as instructions for using an optional plug kit for 120 V installations.

Maintenance features are straightforward, focusing on cleaning and battery replacement for the remote control. The partially reflective glass, which may collect dust or fingerprints during handling, can be cleaned with a clean, dry cloth or a damp, lint-free cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners to prevent scratching. Painted surfaces of the fireplace should be cleaned with a damp cloth. Regular inspection of the heater for dust or dirt accumulation is recommended, at least yearly, to prevent heat buildup and damage.

The remote control battery replacement involves removing the battery cover with a Philips screwdriver and installing one 3 Volt (CR2032 or CR2025) battery with the positive side facing up. Batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly according to local regulations.

In case of heater overheating, a manual limit cut-out will turn the unit off. It can be reset by turning the unit off at the main disconnect panel and waiting 5 minutes. If continuous resets are needed, technical support should be contacted. The manual also includes a troubleshooting section with common issues, display codes, causes, and solutions, directing users to the service manual or an electrician when necessary.

The document emphasizes the importance of user feedback to improve products and experiences, encouraging users to share their warmth and leave reviews on dimplex.com/sharethewarmth or visit the YouTube/Dimplex channel. It also provides contact information for customer support and technical assistance.
