Overview

This document is an assembly and safety guide for the Jay Ottoman Bed, designed for use with an Ottoman Support Bar (O.S.B.). The bed features a gas-lift mechanism for accessing internal storage.

Function Description

The Jay Ottoman Bed is a bed frame with an integrated storage solution. It utilizes a gas-lift mechanism to raise the slat frame, providing access to a storage area beneath the mattress. For optimal safety, an Ottoman Support Bar (O.S.B.) is included and must be engaged when accessing the storage area. The bed is designed for adult operation only and requires a mattress to be placed on the frame before operating the lift mechanism.

Important Technical Specifications

The bed is available in Double, King, and Super King sizes, with specific dimensions and weight capacities:

Overall Dimensions (LWH mm):

  • Double: 2050 x 1490 x 1220
  • King: 2150 x 1640 x 1220
  • Super King: 2150 x 1940 x 1220

Internal Dimensions (LWH mm):

  • Double: 1950 x 1380 x 315
  • King: 2050 x 1530 x 315
  • Super King: 2050 x 1830 x 315

  • Double: 670 x 53 x 9
  • King: 745 x 53 x 9
  • Super King: 600 x 53 x 9

Maximum Storage Height: 315 mm

Mattress Weight Capacity: The bed frame has specific minimum and maximum mattress weight requirements to ensure proper operation of the gas-lift mechanism:

  • Double: Min 20 kg, Max 50 kg
  • King: Min 20 kg, Max 50 kg
  • Super King: Min 20 kg, Max 50 kg

The assembly process is estimated to take approximately 1.5 hours and requires two people. Tools required for assembly include a tape measure and a cross head screwdriver.

Usage Features

The Jay Ottoman Bed incorporates several features for safe and convenient use:

Ottoman Support Bar (O.S.B.): This crucial safety feature must always be engaged when the ottoman is open to prevent accidental closure and potential injury or damage. The O.S.B. is located on the left side of the bed for end-lift models and on either the left or right side of the footend for side-lift models. To engage, the slat-frame must be raised to its highest position, and the O.S.B. inserted into the fixed retaining bracket on the bed frame. When lowering the platform, the O.S.B. should be returned to its original parking position.

Gas-Lift Mechanism: The bed uses a pressurised gas-lift mechanism. It is essential to ensure the mattress is on the bed frame before operating the lift. The mechanism should be operated with caution, always using the designated handle for lifting and lowering.

Piston "Break-in": On first use, the piston seals should be "broken in" by raising and lowering the platform at least five times. Pistons are pre-assembled in their correct orientation to optimize performance and durability.

Mattress Stoppers: Two mattress stoppers (K) are pushed into the slat frame to prevent the mattress from sliding off when the frame is raised.

Storage Area: The internal storage area has a maximum height of 315mm. Users must be careful not to store items that touch the slats, as this could cause damage. The ottoman must be fully opened before accessing the storage area.

Safety Precautions:

  • Only adults should operate the bed.
  • Children and pets must be kept away from the bed during operation and from the storage area.
  • Hands should be kept clear of the mechanism when opening or closing.
  • Users should never reach through the mechanism to access the storage area.
  • The internal storage base should not be overloaded.
  • Do not stand inside the internal storage area.
  • Before removing the mattress, the frame must be secured to prevent unexpected opening.
  • Do not attempt to lie on the mattress when the ottoman is in the raised position.
  • When lifting the ottoman, all bedding except the fitted sheet should be removed.
  • Do not sit on the mattress while the platform is in motion or in the raised position.
  • Users should only get in and out of bed when the platform is in the flat (horizontal) position.
  • Overloading the sleeping platform may damage the product and cause serious injury.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and appearance of the Jay Ottoman Bed, the following maintenance guidelines are provided:

Cleaning:

  • For general cleaning, a warm damp cloth is recommended.
  • For fabric components, a low suction vacuum cleaner can be used to remove dust.
  • Abrasive chemicals or bleach should not be used, as they may damage the product.

Checking and Moving:

  • Periodically, it is recommended to check that all screws and fixtures remain tight.
  • When moving the bed, it should be lifted where possible, rather than dragged or pushed, to prevent damage to the legs or flooring.

Wood Care:

  • Wood pieces are unique, and variations in markings and shade are normal.
  • Over time, the wood may lighten or fade due to light exposure.

Fabric Care:

  • The shade of the fabric may appear slightly different depending on lighting, room positioning, and surroundings.
  • Over time, the fabric colour may lighten or fade due to light exposure.

Metal Care:

  • Metal components are generally resilient to wear and tear.
  • To maintain their appearance, metal parts should be gently dusted and kept dry.

The assembly instructions are printed on recycled paper, and users are encouraged to dispose of packaging safely and environmentally friendly, recycling where possible. The instructions should be kept for future reference.
