Connecting external devices
Connecting an e xternal SATA hard disk (eSATA)
The notebook itself d oes not have an eSATA p ort. The optional Port Replicator
available for your notebook provides this port.
An e xternal SATA hard disk can be connected at th e eSATA port. This allows you
to expand the internal hard disk capacity as you wish.
The length of the eSATA cable must not exceed 2 metres. Consult a sp ecialist
dealer for advice on which eSATA data cable is suitable for your external eSATA
hard disk. Make sure that the hard disk has its own external power supply.
The data transfer rate is up to 2,400 Mbit/s.
eSATA
C onnect the data cab le to the external
device.
C onnect the data cable to the eSATA port.
Device drivers
The eSATA hard disk is automatically recogn ised by your operating system and installed.
You will nd more information in the documentation for the external SATA
hard disk and the operating s ystem.
Safe remo val of eSATA and USB devices
Always correctly remove the device according to the rules described below,
to ensure that none of your data is lost.
Left-click on the symbol to remove hardware sa fely.
Select the device you wish to shut down and remove.
Press the "Enter" key.
Wait for the dialogue box which tells you that it is now safe to remove the device.
