6.2.3 Maintenance levels
If an HDD is faulty, replace the whole HDD since repair requires special tools and environment.
This section explains the two maintenance levels.
(1) Field maintenance (HDD replacement)
• This replacement is done at the user's site.
• Replacement uses standard tools.
• Replacement is usually done by the user, retail dealer, distributor, or OEM engineer.
(2) Factory maintenance (parts replacement)
• This replacement can only be done by Fujitsu.
• Replacement includes maintenance training and OEM engineer support. OEM engineers usually
support retail dealers and distributors.
• Replacement uses factory tools and test equipment.
6.2.4 Tools and test equipment
HDD troubleshooting and repair in the field require only standard hand tools. No special tools or
test equipment are required.
This manual does not describe the factory-level tools and test equipment.
