SBS Principle - Saeco Brewing System
Adjusting the ow speed, which inuences the
contact time between the coee and water,
alters the extraction and therefore the taste
intensity and strength of the coee.
• Slower ow: Stronger extraction
• Faster ow: Lighter extraction
SBS dispensing valve
Turning the SBS adjustment knob will trigger
the brewing process in the coee unit, where
the ow speed is adjusted via a cream valve.
Cream valve adjustment
Greater ow (light extraction)
If the SBS valve is open, the coee ows
easily because the pressure is lower and
the membrane remains almost in its base
position with the help of the spring.
The adjustment needle does not close the
opening and the ow does not decrease.
Cream valve adjustment
Slow ow (strong extraction)
The coee is dispensed slowly with the SBS
valve closed due to the pressure created,
which acts on the membrane and presses it
to the side against the spring force.
Lastly, the valve needle closes the opening,
thereby, reducing the ow.
