What to do if fluid leaks at the packing nut of my Graco 17R236 Paint Sprayer?
    • S
      Sally MontesAug 8, 2025
If you notice fluid leaking at the packing nut, it's likely that the nut is loose. To resolve this, slightly tighten the packing nut and then re-test. Repeat this process until the packing seals completely and the leak stops.

    • P
      Patricia ShermanAug 12, 2025
If the needle on your paint sprayer is slow to return after releasing the trigger, the packing nut might be too tight. Try loosening the packing nut slowly until the needle returns freely.

Why does my Graco Paint Sprayer have an orange peel finish?
    • A
      andersonandrewAug 17, 2025
An orange peel finish, where the paint surface isn't smooth, can occur for several reasons: * Paint droplets may be too large. Adjust the fluid control knob on the gun to reduce the amount of fluid, spray from a greater distance, and ensure the turbine air filters are clean. Avoid using an air hose that's too long, as it can reduce atomization pressure. * Paint droplets might be drying too quickly. Prevent this by keeping the object out of direct sunlight and using a slower-evaporating solvent or reducer, especially in warmer temperatures. * Cold weather can also be a factor. Keep both the fluid and the object being sprayed as close to room temperature as possible, as cold surfaces can cause the paint to thicken and not flow correctly.

What to do if my Graco 17R236 does not automatically shut-off in SmartStart setting?
    • J
      Jonathan DunnAug 20, 2025
If your sprayer isn't automatically shutting off in SmartStart mode, there are several things to check: * Ensure the air hose and components are the ones that shipped with the sprayer. * Check for leaking air hose connections. Disconnect the air hoses and verify the o-ring is present inside the connection fitting at the turbine end of the hose. If using a whip hose, make sure the gasket is present inside the connection fitting. Securely connect all hose connections. * Verify the use of an Edge II Plus gun. * Ensure the fluid valve is tight.

Why is my clear coating milky when using a Graco 17R236 Paint Sprayer?
    • C
      Chad LewisAug 26, 2025
Blushing, where clear coatings appear milky, happens because moisture condensation gets trapped in the lacquer during hot, humid conditions. To prevent this: * Allow the turbine to warm up for a few minutes before spraying. * Store lacquer off concrete floors, at room temperature. * Apply lighter coats and allow for proper drying time. * Use a slower evaporating solvent or reducer. * Avoid spraying in windy conditions.

What to do if FlexLiner does not collapse or collapses slowly with Graco 17R236?
    • T
      Tami StrongAug 29, 2025
If the FlexLiner isn't collapsing properly, consider these potential causes: * Dirty sealing surfaces: Clean the sealing surfaces and securely reinstall the ring. * Incorrect or missing air cap: Ensure the Edge II air cap is installed correctly. For Edge II Plus, verify the retaining ring is positioned correctly. * Loose air cap: For Edge II, make sure the retaining ring is fully installed. * Air Control/Artisan Valve setting: If installed, rotate the control clockwise to increase air flow until the desired flow is achieved. * Gun tubing: Verify the gun tubing is properly connected and not kinked.

What causes fish eyes when using a Graco 17R236 Paint Sprayer?
    • T
      Tiffany CollinsSep 3, 2025
Fish eyes, those small pools that won't fill on a painted surface, are usually caused by silicone contamination. This contamination comes from lubricants, grease, polish, or waxes on the surface you're spraying. To fix this, clean all parts with a cleaning solvent, wipe with a solvent rag, and then a clean rag. Replace rags as needed. If the problem continues, consider using a fish eye eliminator.
