This document is an Installation & Owner's Manual for FLEXX series indoor air handler units manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai, distributed in the U.S. by Tradewinds, LLC. It provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and correct installation, operation, and maintenance of these air conditioners.
The FLEXX air handlers are designed to offer a combination of superior product quality, operating efficiency, and low sound levels. They utilize the environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, which is chlorine-free, contributing to the protection of the ozone layer. These units are intended for indoor installation only and are designed to work with a complete supply and return ductwork system.
Function Description:
The primary function of the FLEXX air handler is to circulate conditioned air throughout a building as part of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. When paired with a compatible outdoor condensing unit, it facilitates the transfer of heat, providing cooling or heating to maintain desired indoor temperatures. The unit houses an evaporator coil, a centrifugal fan, and a fan motor, which are essential for refrigerant heat exchange and air movement. Optional electric heater kits can be integrated to provide supplementary heating. The system relies on a thermostat for control, allowing users to set and regulate the indoor climate.
Usage Features:
- Indoor Installation: The air handler is specifically designed for indoor use, emphasizing that outdoor installation is strictly prohibited.
- Refrigerant Type: Operates with R410A refrigerant, an environmentally conscious choice that is chlorine-free.
- Ductwork System: Requires a complete supply and return ductwork system for proper operation. It is crucial not to operate the unit without all ductwork attached and completed, as inadequate ductwork can restrict airflow, leading to improper performance and potential compressor or heater failure.
- Return Air Filtration: Each installation must include a return air filter, which can be installed either at the air handler itself or externally, such as within a return air filter grille.
- Optional Electric Heater: The unit can be equipped with an optional electric heater kit (available as an accessory) to provide additional heating capacity. Specific instructions for installing these kits are provided, emphasizing the need for identical electrical characteristics between the air handler, heater kit, and power supply.
- Thermostat Control: The unit is controlled via a thermostat, which manages the operation modes (cooling, heating, fan) and temperature settings.
- Safety Features: Includes various safety precautions such as warnings against installation in corrosive, inflammable, or explosive environments, requirements for proper electrical grounding, and instructions for handling high system pressure and electrical components.
- Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard Warning: Special warnings are provided for installations in enclosed areas (like garages or utility rooms) where carbon monoxide-producing devices might be present, stressing the need for adequate ventilation to prevent CO poisoning.
- Drainage System: Features primary and secondary drain connections for condensate removal, requiring a "P" style trap to prevent odors and ensure proper drainage.
Maintenance Features:
- Professional Service Recommended: Scheduled service, maintenance, and cleaning should be performed by professional personnel to prolong the unit's lifespan.
- Drain Pipe Inspection: Regular checks of the drain pipe are necessary to ensure it is free of obstructions and allows for proper condensate removal.
- Pre-Seasonal Use Checks: Before seasonal use, users are advised to check if the indoor unit's inlet/outlet is clogged, if the ground wire is properly secured, and if the filter is correctly installed.
- Post-Seasonal Use Maintenance: After seasonal use, maintenance includes cutting off the main power supply, cleaning the filter screen, removing dust and debris from the indoor units, and applying anti-rust paint if any rusting is observed.
- Filter Cleaning: The filter screen should be cleaned if it becomes blocked by dirt, as this can lead to abnormal cooling or heating performance.
- Parts Replacement: Any necessary parts replacements should be purchased from a licensed HVAC professional.
- Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a section on common malfunctions and their elimination, providing guidance on identifying and resolving issues such as the unit not activating, stopping immediately, or experiencing abnormal cooling/heating. It also clarifies circumstances that are not malfunctions, such as slight cracking sounds or the fan continuing to run after the unit is switched off in "ON" mode.
- Warranty Information: The warranty requires that the first run of the unit be operated by a licensed HVAC professional, only factory-manufactured accessories be used, and all instructions in the manual be followed. Failure to adhere to these requirements will automatically invalidate the warranty.
