  If your Grizzly Drill is stalling or seems underpowered, consider these potential causes: the spindle speed might be incorrect for the task, the machine could be undersized, the bit or cutter might be dull, the power supply voltage could be low, or the belts might be slipping. Other possible reasons include a faulty plug or receptacle, incorrect motor wiring, a slipping pulley on the shaft, faulty motor bearings, an overheated motor, or a faulty motor. Decrease spindle speed, use smaller bits, check the power supply, replace belts, test the power plug, correct the motor wiring, replace the pulley and shaft if needed, rotate motor shaft for noisy or burnt bearings, clean the motor, and test, repair, or replace the motor if necessary.

  If your Grizzly Drill doesn't start, several factors could be responsible. It could be a faulty plug or receptacle, a faulty start capacitor, incorrect motor wiring, a faulty power supply, a faulty safety switch key, or a faulty ON/OFF switch. Also, check for any open or high-resistance cables or wiring, or a faulty motor. To resolve this, test the power plug and receptacle, replace the capacitor or switch, correct the motor wiring, ensure the power supply is operational, troubleshoot the wires, and test, repair, or replace the motor.

  Excessive vibration or noise in your Grizzly Drill can stem from several causes. A motor or component might be loose, belts could be slapping against the belt cover, V-belts may be worn or loose, the motor fan could be rubbing on the fan cover, or a pulley might be loose. Also, the machine could be incorrectly mounted, the chuck or cutter could be faulty, or the motor or spindle bearings might be at fault. Inspect and tighten any loose components, replace belts, repair the fan cover or fan, secure the pulley, ensure proper mounting, and replace the chuck, cutter, or bearings as needed.

What to do if drilling stops, but the motor still operates on my Grizzly Drill?

  If your Grizzly Drill stops drilling but the motor continues to run, it could be due to a loose or worn belt, or a pulley slipping on the spindle shaft or motor. Also, the bit may be slipping in the chuck. Replace or adjust the belt, tighten the bit, and inspect the bit for burrs or obstructions. To resecure the pulley: 1. Unplug the drill press! 2. Remove the setscrew on the slipping pulley. 3. Align the flats on the pulley shaft with the setscrew hole. 4. Reinstall and tighten the setscrew.

  A wobbly or loose chuck on your Grizzly Drill's spindle shaft can be caused by foreign material stuck between the chuck and spindle mating surface or by a damaged chuck. To fix this, remove the chuck and clean and deburr the tapered chuck and spindle mating surfaces, then reassemble. If the chuck is damaged, replace it.

  If the spindle on your Grizzly Drill does not retract completely or binds, the quill shaft may be gummy with sawdust and oil, the feed shaft return spring may be weak, or the quill deflection screw may be binding the quill. Clean the gummy substance with penetrating oil and lubricate with a light coat of oil. Loosen the jam nut, and slightly turn out the screw where the quill binds. Retighten the jam nut and recheck for binding and looseness at all spindle locations.
