Overview

This document describes the Hitachi Remote Controller Manual for model RC-AGS1EA0E, detailing its functions, usage features, and maintenance aspects. The remote controller operates the room air conditioner and has a control range of about 7 meters, which may be shorter if indoor lighting is electronically controlled.

Function Description

The remote controller allows users to select various operation modes, adjust temperature, fan speed, and activate specialized functions for enhanced comfort and energy efficiency.

  • On/Off Button: Initiates or stops the air conditioner's operation. A beep confirms the action.
  • Mode Selector Button: Cycles through different operation modes: Heat, Auto, Cool, Dry, and Fan.
    • Auto Mode: The device automatically determines the operation mode (Heat or Cool) based on the current room temperature. If the automatically selected mode is unsatisfactory, users can manually switch to Heat, Dry, Cool, or Fan. Fan speed can be set to Auto, Silent, Low, Medium, High, or Super High. Temperature can be set between 16.0°C and 32.0°C.
    • Heat Mode: Used for heating when the outdoor temperature is under 24°C. The heating function may not work if it's too warm (over 24°C) to protect the device. For reliability, it's recommended to use the device above -15°C outdoor temperature. Fan speed and temperature settings are similar to Auto Mode. Defrosting occurs automatically when frost forms on the outdoor unit's heat exchanger, lasting 5-10 minutes.
    • Dry Mode: Used for dehumidifying when the room temperature is over 16°C; it won't work below 15°C. Fan speed is set to Auto by default, but Silent, Low, or Auto can be selected. Recommended temperature range for dehumidifying is 20.0°C to 26.0°C, with an overall range of 16.0°C to 32.0°C. The device dehumidifies to the preset level if the room temperature is higher than the setting, or slightly lower than the current room temperature if it's lower than the setting.
    • Cool Mode: Used for cooling when the outdoor temperature is between -10°C and 46°C. High indoor humidity (over 80%) may cause dew to form on the indoor unit's air outlet grille. Fan speed and temperature settings are similar to Auto Mode. The cooling function activates when the set temperature is below the current room temperature.
    • Fan Mode: Allows the device to function simply as an air circulator. Fan speed can be set to Silent, Low, Medium, High, or Super High.
  • Temperature Buttons (Up/Down): Adjust the room temperature setting. Holding the button changes the value quicker.
  • Fan Speed Button: Selects the desired fan speed (Auto, Silent, Low, Medium, High, Super High).
  • Powerful Button: Activates maximum power operation for quick cooling or heating in Auto, Heat, Dry, Cool, or Fan modes. This mode lasts for 20 minutes and then reverts to previous settings. It is canceled if SleepSense, Smart Eco, LeaveHome, Silent, or My Mode are active.
  • Silent Button: Changes the fan speed to a silent setting during Auto, Heat, Dry, Cool, or Fan operations. It is canceled if Powerful operation is selected or by pressing Mode, LeaveHome, or My Mode buttons.
  • Up/Down Button: Controls the angle of the horizontal air deflector, allowing it to swing up and down or be set to a desired fixed angle.
  • Left/Right Button: Controls the angle of the vertical air deflector, allowing it to swing left and right parallelly or asymmetrically, or be set to a desired fixed angle.
  • Wide Reach Button: Controls the angle of the vertical air deflector for wide reach, allowing it to swing left and right symmetrically or be set to a desired fixed angle.
  • On Timer Button: Sets the time for the air conditioner to turn ON.
  • Off Timer Button: Sets the time for the air conditioner to turn OFF.
  • SleepSense Button: Utilizes a motion sensor to detect movement, location, and temperature around people to control set temperature and fan speed, aiming for comfortable and energy-saving sleep. It increases temperature in cooling or decreases in heating if no human movement is detected for 1 hour, and adjusts fan speed. It is canceled by Powerful, LeaveHome, Smart Eco, or My Mode buttons.
  • Smart Eco Button: Detects the presence of people in the room. If no one is detected for 20 minutes, the set temperature shifts for energy saving. If no one is detected for 60 minutes, it shifts further. A second press activates "Eco with Auto-Off," which turns off the unit if no activity is detected for 60 minutes. A third press cancels both Eco and Eco with Auto-Off.
  • LeaveHome Button: Prevents the room temperature from falling too low when no one is home. The initial setting is 10.0°C, adjustable between 10.0°C and 16.0°C. Fan speed and deflector position cannot be changed in this mode. It disables Powerful, SleepSense, Smart Eco, Timer, Silent, and My Mode operations.
  • AQtiv-Ion Button: Activates the AQtiv-Ion operation during Heat, Auto, Cool, Dry, or Fan modes.
  • My Mode Button: Allows users to program up to three personalized comfort settings, including mode, temperature, fan speed, and timer/silent settings.
  • Power Safe (Max Current Switching): Limits the maximum current drawn by the air conditioner to prevent breaker trips. This function reduces compressor speed, which may result in less cooling or heating performance. It is recommended to use Auto Fan speed in this mode.
  • Mold Guard Operation: After cooling or dehumidifying operation, the indoor unit's fan dries the unit by heating or fan mode for about 100 minutes to suppress mold generation. It does not remove or sterilize mold. It activates after more than 10 minutes of cooling/drying and stopping the unit.
  • Operation Mode Lock: Allows locking the remote controller to specific modes (Heat, Cool, Dry, including Fan Mode) to prevent accidental changes.

Usage Features

  • Backlight Function: The LCD panel lights up for approximately 10 seconds when any key is pressed, aiding visibility in the dark.
  • Battery Installation: Requires two new batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Old and new batteries, or different types, should not be mixed. Batteries should be removed if the remote controller is not used for 2-3 months.
  • Clock Setting: Users can set the current time using the Temperature Up/Down buttons after pressing and holding the Timer ON or Timer OFF button for 5 seconds.
  • Auto Restart Control: In case of a power failure, the unit automatically restarts with previous operation mode and airflow direction settings once power is restored. This feature is not available when a timer is set.
  • FrostWash (Auto Mode): Automatically cleans the indoor unit's heat exchanger by freezing and thawing. It activates after 42 accumulated operating hours, or if the unit stops after more than 30 minutes of operation, or if a human sensor detects presence/absence for specific durations. It can be enabled/disabled by pressing Temperature Up/Down and FrostWash buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds in OFF mode.
  • Fan Reverse (Auto Mode): Rotates the outdoor unit's fan in reverse direction when stopped to blow away dust from the outdoor heat exchanger. This function activates automatically.
  • Initialization of Built-in airCloud Home Module: Allows resetting the internal settings to factory defaults. This requires pressing the Mode and On Timer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds in OFF mode.

Maintenance Features

  • Filter Sign Reset Button: Resets the filter sign on the indoor unit after the air filter has been cleaned. This button is active only in OFF mode.
  • FrostWash (Manual Mode): Allows users to manually initiate the FrostWash cleaning cycle when the unit is off by pressing the FrostWash button. This process takes up to 120 minutes.
  • Reset Function (Hardware Reset): In case of display issues or unresponsive keys, pressing the Reset button restores the remote controller's hardware to default settings. A pointed item like a pen is needed to press the button. All settings except some special activated functions will be reset.

Precautions for Use

  • Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures for the remote controller.
  • Protect the remote controller from drops and water.
  • If any function button is pressed during operation, the air conditioner may pause for about 3 minutes for protection before resuming.
  • During FrostWash, avoid opening windows/doors, as water may drip. Do not open or remove the front panel. Hissing or squeaking noises may occur. The function is not effective if the air conditioner is continuously running.
  • Do not operate the air deflector manually.
  • In Cooling operation, avoid keeping the horizontal or vertical air deflector swinging for extended periods to prevent dew formation and water drops.
  • During Mold Guard operation, room temperature or humidity may rise.
  • Smart Eco's sensor accuracy may be affected by low activity levels, blocked human bodies, high indoor temperatures, thick clothing, or swinging curtains/plant leaves.
  • For Smart Eco with Auto-Off, if infants or sick persons are present, it's recommended not to use Auto-Off, as the unit might stop operation.
  • Power Safe mode may reduce cooling/heating performance.
  • Timer settings cannot be changed if On Timer or Off Timer are already set.
  • Operation Mode Lock will not activate if Timer reservations or My Mode are active.
