1 7 MECHANI SM’S ADJUSTMENT
All the mechanisms are adjusted and tested in the producer’s plant. After a prolonged exploita-
tion, some of the mechanisms have to be readjusted because of the wearing off of the friction
surfaces. The adjustment and setting of the different mechanisms shall be effected after each
machine repair too. It is recommended these adjustments to be performed by qualified special-
ists in respective service.
1 7 .1 MAI N SPI NDLE BEARI NGS
The main spindle bearings are adjusted at the factory. If end play
becomes evident after considerable use, the bearings may be
adjusted.
Caution: excessive tightening or preloading will damage the
bearings.
1 7 .2 ADJUSTMENT OF CROSS SLI DE
The cross slide is fitted with a gib strip (C, Fig.24) and can be
adjusted with screws (D,Fig.24) fitted with lock nuts. (E,Fig.24)
Loosen the lock nuts and tighten the set screws until slide moves
freely without play. Tighten lock nuts to retain adjustment.
1 7 .3 ADJUSTMENT OF TOP SLI DE
The top slide is fitted with a gib strip (F, Fig.25) and can be ad-
justed with screws (G,Fig.25) fitted with lock nuts. (H, Fig.25)
Loosen the lock nuts and tighten the set screws until slide moves
freely without play. Tighten lock nuts to retain adjustment.
1 7 .4 ADJUSTMENT OF HALF NUT GUI DE
Loosen the nut (I, Fig.26) on the right side bottom of the apron
and adjust the control screws (J, Fig.26) until both half nuts
move freely without play. Tighten the nut.
