GENERATOR USE
Connections to a Building’s Electrical System
Improper connections to a building’s electrical system can allow
electricity from the generator to backfeed into utility lines and may
cause serious injury or death to utility company workers or others
who contact the lines. Consult the utility company or a qualified
electrician.

electricity from the utility company to backfeed into the generator,
which will severely damage the generator and may cause fires.

GROUND
TERMINAL
If the generator will be used as an alternative to utility company power,
an isolation switch must be installed to disconnect the utility lines
from the building when the generator is connected. Installation must
be performed by a qualified electrician and must comply with all
applicable laws and electrical codes.
In some areas, generators are required by law to be registered with
local utility companies. Check local regulations for proper registration
and use procedures.
Be sure to ground the generator when the connected equipment is
grounded.
