Operat i on
1. Before switchi ng on the imtrument, ensure that the power transformer primar y is matched to
t he available li ne voltage, t he correct fuse is installed and the safety pre caut io ns are taken. Refer
to Po wer Requireme nt s, L ine Voltage Selec tion , Po we r Cables, and assoc iated warnings and
cautiom in Section II of this manu al.
2. Press FREQ AlPER A swi tch. , and adjust LE VE L/SENS controls " ., fu lly ccw. All ot he r
switches to the OUT position.
3. Ad ju st GATE TIME control 0 to approx imate minimum.
4. Set POWER s witch O to the ON position and observe the power-up s elf- check. V erif y all seg-
ments
of the display; decimal p oi nt after MS D; and t he O V FL , Hz , S, and GATE annunc iators
light momentari ly, fo ll owed by a display of "00. Ve rify both trigger lights are lit.

When the i nstrument is first turned on, the microcomputer perform s a
s
elf-che ck. If , durin g po w er-up self-check, an error is detected, a
numbered error me ssa ge will flash momentar ily and the Error annun ci-
ator ., w ill light and remain lit. Verify the error number by repeating
powe r -up se lf-check and refer to paragraph 3-52 Error Messages.
5. V erif y Displ ay Check rou tine by placing all f undion select sw itch es in the OUT pOSition. This
may be accomplished by pressi
ng any gray colored functio n switch partially in, relea si ng one
that is locked in. Obser ve the cy din g of the disp lay from all zero's to all one 's, two's,
three's
.. . . etc., to all blank . Re f er to paragraph 3-29.

The Display Check routine is an unlabeled f un ct ion , used to ve rif y the
operation , dig i ts and most an nunicato rs w ithin the Display a sse mbl y.
