MultiBoot
The hard drive can boot as only drive C. A network interface card
(NIC) does not have a drive letter assigned to it.

An optical drive device (CD or DVD) can boot either as drive A
or drive C, depending on the format of the CD or DVD. Most
bootable CDs or DVDs boot as drive A. If you have an optical
drive that boots as the C drive, the system will boot the diskette
drive before the optical drive.
You can change the sequence in which the notebook searches for
a startup device by enabling MultiBoot and entering a new startup
sequence, or boot order. Or, you can use MultiBoot Express to set
the notebook to prompt you for a startup location each time the
notebook is started or restarted.
By default, the notebook selects the startup device by searching
enabled devices and locations in a predetermined sequence.
The notebook searches only once, in the order below, for a
bootable device. If it does not find a bootable device in drive A,
the notebook begins a search for a device that can boot as drive C.
The list below describes the order in which drive numbers are
assigned. (The actual startup sequence varies by configuration.)
Sequence for devices that boot as drive A:
1. Disc in an optical drive in a Port Replicator MultiBay or in an
External MultiBay that boots as drive A.
2. Diskette in a drive in a Port Replicator MultiBay or in an
External MultiBay.
3. SuperDisk in a drive in a Port Replicator MultiBay or in an
External MultiBay.
Sequence for devices that boot as drive C:
1. Disc in an optical drive in a Port Replicator MultiBay or in an
External MultiBay that boots as drive C.
2. Hard drive in the notebook hard drive bay.
3. Hard drive in a Port Replicator MultiBay or in an External
MultiBay.
