Cabling disk enclosures in the expansion rack
How and when you cable the expansion rack disk enclosures depends on:
Whether the expansion is done online or offline
How the product is shipping from Manufacturing
Online versus offline expansion
If you perform an online expansion, do not connect the disk enclosures in the expansion rack
together before connecting the main rack to the expansion rack. You can only add one disk
enclosure at a time when performing an online expansion. See “Online expansion (page 12) for
specific cabling procedures. If you perform an offline expansion, you can connect all disk enclosures
in the expansion rack together first. See “Offline expansion (page 22) for specific cabling
procedures.
Product shipped from Manufacturing
Each disk enclosure is shipped from Manufacturing with one end of a power cord connected to
the disk enclosure power supply. Before applying power to the disk enclosure (either in the online
or offline expansion), connect the other end of the power cord to a power distribution module on
the expansion rack.
If the expansion rack is shipped as a Configure To Order (CTO) configuration, the expansion rack
arrives with all disk enclosures installed and all cables connected (power cords and cables between
the disk enclosures). If you are doing an online expansion, you must disconnect each power cord
from the rack power distribution module and disconnect the cables between the disk enclosures.
If you are doing an offline expansion, you can leave the power cords as is. You may need to
reconfigure the cables between the disk enclosures, depending on whether the expansion rack is
for a P6300 EVA or P6500 EVA configuration.
