HP/Phoenix BIOS Summary
The System ROM contains the POST (power-on self-test) routines, and the
BIOS: the System BIOS, video BIOS (for models with an integrated video
controller), and low option ROM. This chapter, and the following one, give
an overview of the following aspects:
• menu-driven Setup with context-sensitive help, described next in this
chapter.
• The address space, with details of the interrupts used, described at the
end of this chapter.
• The Power-On-Self-Test or POST, which is the sequence of tests the com-
puter performs to ensure that the system is functioning correctly, de-
scribed in the next chapter.
The system BIOS is identified by the version number HB1xxxyy. The
procedure for updating the System ROM firmware is described on page 30
.
Press , to run the Setup program, while the initial “Kayak” logo is being
displayed immediately after restarting the PC. Alternatively, press to
view the summary configuration screen. By default, this remains on the
screen for 20 seconds, but by pressing once, it can be held on the screen
indefinitely until is pressed again. Pressing will cause the computer
to be turned off.
The band along the top of the Setup screen offers five menus: Main,
Advanced, Security, Boot, Power, and Exit. These are selected using the left
and right arrow keys. For a more complete description, see the User’s Guide
that was supplied with the PC Workstation.
SCSISelect Utility
The SCSISelect utility is accessed by pressing during the computer’s
start-up process when the message
Press for SCSISelect(TM)
Utility!
is displayed. This utility is described in detail in the User’s Guide
supplied with the PC Workstation.
