Place the server on its side.
5. Remove the access panel (on page 23).
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the heatsink to cool
before touching it.
6. Remove the heatsink:
a. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
b. Loosen the four corner screws completely to disengage the heatsink.
c. Remove the heatsink from the processor backplate.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the processor, do not touch the bottom of the processor,
especially the contact area.
7. Open the processor locking lever, and then open the processor retaining bracket.
