Set up your device for the first time
After you turned on the device for the first time, you will be prompted to create a
Gmail account or sign in to your existing Gmail account. Touch the screen to begin.
Note Make sure that your device has an active data connection (3G/GPRS) before you create
a Gmail account. See “Device Status and Notifications” in this chapter to know if your
device has an active data connection.
To create a Gmail account
1. Read the setup information on the screen, then
touch Next.
2. Touch Create.
Tips • Touch Skip if you prefer to set up an account
at a later time and start using your device.
• If you already have a Gmail account, touch
Sign in, then open the keyboard. Enter your
user name and password, then touch Sign
in. After signing in, all e-mails, contacts, and
calendar events on your Gmail account will
automatically synchronize with your device.
3. Open the keyboard. Enter your name and Gmail account user name, then
touch Next.
The device connects to the Google server to check if the user name you
entered is available. If the user name you entered is already in use, you will
be prompted to enter another user name or select from a list of available
user names.
4. Enter and confirm your Gmail account password.
Tip Refer to the indicator at the right side of the password field to check if your
password is too short (less than 8 characters), weak, fair, good, or strong.
5. Select a security question from the drop-down menu, then enter the answer
