5.5.3 Upgrading the Controller Firmware in ESXi
Operation Scenario
You can upgrade the controller firmware when a new version is released.
Preparations
Before upgrading the firmware, check that:
l Stop or exit the ES3000 V3 SSD applications or services.
l The firmware upgrade does not damage data on SSDs. However, you are advised to back
up important data on SSDs.
l You have downloaded the firmware package to the server, and verified the package
integrity.
l You have uploaded the controller firmware file ES3000V3_FW_2.43.bin to the server.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the OS as an administrator or a member of the administrator group.
Step 2 Run the following command to query the SSD controller (such asnvme0) firmware version:
hioadm updatefw -d nvme0
The command output contains the following controller firmware version:
slot version activation
1 1.20
2 1.20 next
3 1.20 current
NOTE
The version number to the left of next indicates the version that takes effect after the next reset. The version
number to the left of current indicates the current version in use.
Step 3 Navigate to the folder where the controller firmware is stored, for example, /tmp.
NOTE
You can use an absolute path or a relative path when upgrading the driver. If you do not perform this step, you
must enter an absolute path in the command in the next step.
Step 4 Upgrade the controller firmware.
hioadm updatefw -d nvme0 -f ES3000V3_FW_2.43.bin
Step 5 Enter y and press Enter.
Step 6 After the upgrade, run the reboot command to restart the OS.
Step 7 Run the following command to check whether the SSD device controller firmware is
upgraded:
hioadm updatefw -d nvme0
ES3000 V3 NVMe PCIe SSD
