ps

ick-ups, or throu

h hulls are placed in various locations
in the hull of

our boat. The intakes usuall

have a ball t

valve which controls the flow of raw sea water to the s

e-

f
ic component, or s
y
stem associated with the pick-up.

e or break down a

stem or component.

.3.2 Strainers
Your boat is equipped with strainers that strain the raw
water taken in the thru hulls or pickups for ob
j
ects that
c
ould dama
g
e the impeller or pump equipment.
S
trainers
are equipped with a screen or a
f
ilter inside that collect
o
b
j
ects taken in. The
y
must be cleaned as part of routine
m
a
int
e
n
a
n
ce
.
To clean a strainer, first, make sure that the suppl
y
valve
is in the
Off
or closed position. Failure to close the intake
o
r seacock could result in a
f
looded boat. Next, remove
the “collector” or
g
lass encasement that houses the
screen. Remove an
y
ob
j
ects collected inside and wash
th
e
sc
r
ee
n
.

ine Seacocks and Strainers
It is a ver

important

remain a specific temperature when operatin
g
. This is
done with the aid o
f
raw water
f
rom the main en
g
ine
seacocks. Heat
f
rom the closed coolin
g
s
y
stem on the
e
n
g
ines is transferred to the cooler seawater throu
g
h
heat exchan
g
ers inside the en
g
ine. The raw water is then
dischar
g
ed throu
g
h the exhaust
.
To clean

ine seacock, remove the top cover on the strainer
